The Great Map

With families in mind, we created the Great Map, a giant printed floor map of the world and its oceans and an iPad device that enabled exploration and discovery.

The Upper Deck at the heart of the National Maritime Museum was once a bleak space with an austere showcased display of navigation instruments and an adjacent café. With families in mind, we created the Great Map, a giant printed floor map of the world and its oceans.

The Great Map can be explored via an iPad operated treasure hunt that enables older children to be able to circumnavigate the globe and understand different ship types and reasons for being at sea. We also commissioned a fleet of mini rideable ships in bright colours to enable younger visitors to voyage throughout the world’s oceans, transport important cargo and enjoy playing in a large unrestricted space.
