The Tower Core Story

Polly led the development and delivery of The Tower Core Story, the Tower of London’s first interpretation strategy and future plan for the next 20 years.

How do you tell the 1000-year-old history of London’s infamous castle to visitors who are both knowledge – and time – poor? As the Creative Programming and Interpretation Manager for Historic Royal Palaces Polly led the development and delivery of the Tower Core Story, the Tower of London’s first interpretation strategy and future plan for the next 20 years.

The process involved her facilitating 70 workshops over the course of a year with both external and internal stakeholders to re-define the way the Tower communicates its story. Extensive audience research was also undertaken to look at barriers to visitation from local audiences including BAME visitors and those from low socio-economic groups. The final strategy and framework informed a re-branding of the whole Tower site, the design of a new visitor map, wayfinding, external signage, guidebook and a new multi-media guide.
